But what’s the story with “organic” anyways.

I mean half the food in some grocery stores is labeled organic, but what does that really mean?

I was curious about this, because I’ve been interested in the alkalizing power of vegetables for some time, and I have heard people saying that organically grown foods have higher amounts of nutrients.

So did some research, and here’s what I found out…

The Importance of Buying Organic Food

When you refer to food as being “organic,” you highlight the fact that the product was grown and processed adhering to specific requirements.

Organic crops are grown in safe and healthy soil, are not modified in any way, and are kept separate from products classified as “conventionally-grown.” They are not exposed to sewage sludge fertilizers, petroleum-based fertilizers, GMOs or bioengineered genes, or synthetic chemicals.

Organic livestock are fed organic food and are generally raised outdoors. They are not exposed to animal by-products, growth hormones, or antibiotics.

Why is it important to buy organic food instead of conventionally-grown crops or meat from conventionally-raised livestock?

The aspects of food safety, better nutrition, and sustainability seem to be strong reasons for the increasing interest in organic food.  When you make a commitment to eat healthy by buying organic food, you are making an impact on both your health and the world you live in. You are making a strong stand for your health, as well as for that of your environment. You are expressing your commitment to uphold your own health, as well as that of future generations. It is a direct vote for humankind and the earth that sustains them.

The following are strong reasons why you should continue to buy organic food:

1… You are making a more nutritious and flavorful choice.

Foods that are organically grown are more nutritious than commercially grown ones. Grown in soil responsibly managed and nourished, they come from strong and healthy plants. Research demonstrates that organic grains, vegetables, and fruits have more antioxidants and nutrients — micronutrients, enzymes, minerals and vitamins, than conventionally-grown ones. Studies show that GMOs and GEs may be strongly linked to food allergies, chronic illnesses and a wide range of disorders including infertility, accelerated aging, immune system and gastrointestinal problems, organ damage, and other similar problems.

Organic farming practices are behind growing organic crops and raising organic livestock.
